How Now! works...
As experienced programmers know, the slowest part of many programs is the disk I/O. Hard drives are hundreds of times slower than RAM when it comes to data access! Now! takes advantage of this fact by buffering commonly required data in RAM, so that fewer disk I/Os are required. Now! utilizes four intelligent algorithms to speed your data through:
Read prediction:
Now! actually predicts which sectors will be requested before they actually are, and pre-reads them into RAM for instant access!
Write combination
When several writes are made to the same sector in fast succession (as LINK does!), Now! combines them into one efficient write!
Write resequencing:
rather than have the disk head jump all over the disk surface, Now! reorders the writes so that they can be made in one head pass, speeding data throughput!
Smart cache read:
unlike some caches, Now! can save the data to its cache as it is being read by a program, thereby saving valuable time on first read!
